Is the third time a charm? Texas Rep. Ron Paul hopes so. He’ll be announcing a formal bid for the White House on Friday during a Good Morning America appearance from New Hampshire, where he’s barnstorming. The Republican ran in 1988 as a libertarian and again in 2008 for the GOP. While Paul is widely considered a long shot, the staunch libertarian views he voiced four years ago foreshadowed the antitax, anti-bailout philosophy of the Tea Party. But his views on the war on drugs and the Fed—he wants to abolish both—remain out of the mainstream.
