Is the unsolved murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen closing? Police say that Harold Smith, previously referred to as a person of interest in the case, murdered Chasen and acted alone, they revealed in a press conference late Wednesday. Just a few hours earlier, the Los Angeles Times reported that the gun Chasen used to kill himself last week had been linked to Chasen’s murder, a law-enforcement source revealed. Smith committed suicide in his Hollywood apartment building on Dec. 1 after police came to question him regarding Chasen’s murder. Officials previously said they were not certain Smith was involved in the crime last month, but Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Scientific Services Bureau/Firearms Section conducted a ballistics comparison of the weapons involved. A source told People magazine Wednesday that the tests showed a match to the bullet recovered from Chasen’s body.
