Rory McIlroy won the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool on Sunday. The 25-year-old has now captured the third leg of a career Grand Slam, placing him in rarefied company. The only other golfers who have won three different majors by the age of 25 are Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. McIlroy won the U.S. Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012. He said of the win “It feels incredible. I just needed to stay focused and stay in the present and really concentrate on what I was doing out there.” McIlroy not only finished at a 17-under 271, but he also helped his father win a bet. Ten years ago, his father put up £100 at 500-1 odds that McIlroy would win the British Open by the age of 26. Hopefully, McIlroy will get a nice cut.
