Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy broke multiple records during his sweeping win at the 2011 U.S. Open Sunday, the first victory at a major for the 22-year-old prodigy. “Nothing this kid does ever surprises me,” said Graeme McDowell, a fellow Northern Irish golfer who won last year. “He’s the best player I’ve ever seen.” McIlroy broke the U.S. Open record after being 13 under par after his first 35 holes, and at the 10th hole of Sunday's final round, he managed to reach an astonishing 17 under. His four-round total of 268 broke Jim Furyk’s previous record of 272 set in 2003.
