Harry Potter is reportedly taking the stage, and author J.K. Rowling is in talks to collaborate on a theatrical version of her beloved teenage wizard. The play will focus on Potter’s early years rather than try to encompass the action of Rowling’s sprawling seven-book series. Colin Callender, who produced the stage version of Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy that starred Tom Hanks, is signed on to be one of the producers and John Tiffany, seven-time Tony award nominee for The Glass Menagerie on Broadway, is reportedly the front-runner for director. In other Harry Potter-related news, The Daily Mail has recently paid “substantial damages” and issued an apology to Rowling after she sued the British paper for libel over an article that Rowling said falsely accused her of fabricating a “sob story” about being taunted by churchgoers.
