Russell Westbrook has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player after finishing a record-breaking season. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard was awarded with the honor at the NBA’s inaugural awards show Monday night. The 28-year-old became the second player ever to average a triple-double, and he has now become the first player since Moses Malone in 1981 to be named MVP while playing for a team that won less than 50 games. Westbrook thanked his teammates in his acceptance speech, saying he was grateful to “everybody in Oklahoma City that let me go out and compete at a high level every night.”
