Russia said it sympathizes with North Korea in its outrage over The Interview. Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said Pyongyang’s anger was “quite understandable” because “the concept of the movie is so aggressive and scandalous.” Lukashevich also criticized U.S. threats of retaliation for the Sony hack as “counterproductive and dangerous.” Russia’s relationship with North Korea weakened after the Soviet Union collapsed, but it has improved through Vladimir Putin’s efforts. The Interview has been screening online since Wednesday and hit theaters Christmas Day.
