Russia Threatens to Hit Back at U.S. With Sanctions of Its Own

Deputy foreign minister said Moscow has an “arsenal” of countermeasures.

The Kremlin has hinted that it’s ready to retaliate against the U.S. in a tit-for-tat sanctions battle. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the Izvestia newspaper that though Moscow has previously ordered U.S. diplomats to leave Russia, expanded its list of U.S. politicians it considers anti-Russian, and suspended nuclear agreements, “We still have similar measures left in our arsenal.” Ryabkov said any similar decisions would be made by President Vladimir Putin after he’d considered “a combination of factors.”
