Russia Today claims the network was informed that its United Kingdom bank accounts will be frozen. Margarita Simonyan, the editor in chief of Russia’s state-funded international television network, wrote on Twitter: “Our accounts in the U.K. have been closed. The decision can not be reversed. Long live freedom of speech!” The cable news network has long been criticized for a pro-Russian bias on a variety of stories. RT claims that after a decade of banking with NatWest, the network was informed that the bank had “undertaken a review of your banking arrangements” and opted to close the accounts.
