Russian television personality, Anton Kraskovsky, bravely came out on the air only to be promptly fired. “I’m gay, and I’m just the same person as you, my dear audience, as President Putin, as Prime Minister Medvedev and the deputies of our Duma,” he told his viewers. A few hours later executives at KontrTV, a cable network with ties to the Russian government, fired Kraskovsky. The station also reportedly scrubbed the footage of his announcement from its website and YouTube account. The anchor later told CNN that he knew he would be fired but still felt he had to come out because he's been covering anti-gay laws in Russia.
