Russian government hackers reportedly gained access to the Democratic National Committee’s internal network and its database of opposition research into GOP candidate Donald Trump. U.S. officials indicated the breach was part of a larger attempt by Russian spies to hack U.S. political organizations—both Republican and Democrat—to gain better insight into potential future presidents. According to the DNC, the hackers had access to their computer network for about a year, but took no financial, donor, or personal information.
