Russia's War on Vodka

Alcohol

No more overnight sales in Moscow.

Russia is at war against vodka, as elected officials aim to help wean the country off the alcohol. Want proof? Moscow has announced a ban of overnight sales, forbidding the city's residents from purchasing vodka from 10pm to 10am. According to The Guardian, the average Russian consumes a liter and a half of pure alcohol every month. Most of the sauce is produced on the black market. In some villages, the moonshine works as a second currency. Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev first declared war on consumption last summer, asking the government to make measures to discourage drinking and undercut bootleggers.
