America's massive egg recall due to salmonella bacteria has been traced to the feed supplied to chickens at the Iowa farms. The bacteria was also found in the barn and walkway areas. The contaminated feed was produced at the Wright County Egg Co. then fed to chickens at both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms, both in Iowa. The number of salmonella cases hasn’t slowed down, either. A total of 2,403 cases of salmonella enteriditis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, were reported between May 1 and August 25—about two and a half times the average. “Feed were the sources [of the salmonella], but perhaps not the only sources,” Sherri McGarry of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration told CNN. Meanwhile, Wright County Egg said in a statement Thursday, “This finding obviously is of great concern to us.”
