There is so much news happening right now that the best part of Monday night’s Full Frontal with Samantha Bee did not even air on television.
With the Democratic National Convention underway in Philadelphia, Samantha Bee strangely decided to keep her focus on last week’s RNC in Cleveland. We will have to wait until this Wednesday for her special take on all the craziness currently going down at the DNC, but for now we have this online-only clip that went up on Monday about some rare “good news”: the resignation of Roger Ailes.
After reporting that Ailes was pushed out at Fox News after sexual harassment accusations from both former host Gretchen Carlson and current star Megyn Kelly, Bee said, “Congratulations, Roger, you’ve finally achieved your ultimate fantasy: getting fucked by two gorgeous employees at the same time.”
Bee described herself as someone who is “forced” to watch Fox News for the sake of comedy, something that was certainly true when she was a correspondent on The Daily Show and delivered the most perfect takedown of The Five that a hate-watching fan of that waking nightmare could ever hope for.
Pointing out the network’s dedicated “leg cam” and a female-led show, Outnumbered, that trades on the “titillating tension between owning a harem and fear of emasculation,” she added, “So, yeah, it turns out the guy who runs that network is kind of a creep. Who would have guessed?”
The host commended Ailes for coming up with a foolproof ratings strategy: make viewing “furiously angry, while also having a boner.” In her words, Ailes’ Fox News was a “right-wing nightmare factory powered by white resentment and relentless misinformation.”
“But now he’s heaved his rancid bulk out of Fox HQ for the last time. Girl power!” Bee continued. “We’ll never again have to worry about Ailes using his manipulative genius to drag our nation into Mordor like a pervy Shelob.”
Then again, Donald Trump has hinted that he might just bring him on board to run his general election campaign. “Holy Christ, we’re fucked,” Bee concluded.
