Showing up to an event in the same dress is such a faux pas that it found its way into Jamie Lee Curtis' and Sigourney Weaver's new romantic comedy You Again, in which the two show up at a wedding wearing identical pink gowns. But the two actresses brought the trope from the movie to the film's Wednesday night premiere in Los Angeles, donning identical asymmetrical teal David Meister dresses. The Daily Mail revealed that the pair joked to photographers about being stunned by the coincidence.

Although Lady Gaga made a statement in her meat dress at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, last year another dress garnered attention. Not only do Shakira and Pink both have only one name, but the performers both showed up at the 2009 MTV VMA's wearing identical Balmain leather minis. The Latina songstress matched her strapless sparkling dress with thigh-high leather boots, a black clutch, and a matching bracelet, while the pop rocker wore black patent heels and long earrings. Pink told reporters she ordered her dress online, while one site believed Shakira's stylist picked hers. The two apparently laughed off the coincidence and Pink told Us Weekly, the founder of the " Who Wore It Best?" spread, "I think it's hilarious."

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, especially when the dress someone's copying is one you designed. Model Christine Brinkley wore the same silver Donna Karan dress as Donna Karan herself to the Heat Hamptons Benefit this August. Luckily, Karan created the dress so that it could be converted and rearranged in various styles and so the designer decided to add a sleeve to hers and tighten the drape, presumably to distinguish her ensemble from Brinkley's, the New York Post reported. Though the newspaper claimed the two were unhappy with the "fashion disaster," nevertheless, they were at least able to smile for the camera civilly.

The third season of I Love Lucy had its central characters stuck in a prisoner's dilemma over the possibility of wearing the same dress. Getting ready for a televised talent show, best friends Lucy and Ethel tell each other that they've bought the perfect gown, only to discover that it's the same one—sparkly, massive floral adornment and all. They both promise to return their gowns and get new ones, but, of course, thinking that the other has returned hers, neither of them do. The episode ends with the two being dragged offstage after they begin tearing one another's dresses apart during a rendition of Cole Porter's "Friendship." The iconic episode lead Mattell to produce Barbie dolls of the acquaintances in their identical ensembles. The duplication continues!

Can you spot the difference? 30 Rock star Tina Fey and singer Sheryl Crow wore nearly identical dresses to the Matrix Awards in New York City this April. Though Dolce & Gabbana looks featured the same floral pattern, Fey's was deeply cut and Crow's was not. The label's spokeswoman said that, "Probably, they reached into their closets and pulled out a version of the dress." However the fashion mishap happened, Fey was able to laugh about her unintentional twin. The comedian joked to Us Weekly,"If you want to see what this dress looks like on a ripped surfer body, look over there." Of her conservative cover-up, she added, "I wear it with a sweater."

Not only did The City's Roxy Olin get her gig on The Hills spin-off series, starring Kristin Cavallari, but she also seemingly ripped off her reality TV predecessor's style. The two MTV stars showed up at the Jill Stuart fashion show in New York earlier this month, wearing almost identical mini-dresses by the designer—the only difference was Olin's was black and Cavallari's was purple. Us Weekly reported that the two reality stars seemed "unfazed" by the coincidence, but if their on-camera behavior is any indication, it couldn't have been a comfortable moment.

The only thing worse than wearing the same dress, and boots, as someone else is when that someone turns out to be 37 years your junior. In Sex and the City 2, Kim Cattrall's character Samantha Jones says that she wants to look "hot and young" for her boyfriend's premiere and thus, buys herself a strapless metallic dress. But when she shows up to find 18-year-old pop star Miley Cyrus in the same look, her new fresh feeling fades. "Mother of God," exclaims her friend Anthony Marentino. "She's wearing the same dress as Hannah Montana!"

Country queen Reba McEntire reached a new low when she showed up wearing the same emerald gown as Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson at the 2010 CMT Awards. The comedian was an unlikely McEntire impersonator on the sketch comedy show, but brought the imitation to a new stage this summer at the country music ceremony. "Aren't you embarrassed of yourself?" asked Reba in the obviously set-up mishap. "Yeah I'm embarrassed," he replied. "I'm embarrassed that someone showed up in the same dress as me."

Australian tennis star Sam Stosur was known for her "distinctive look," as ESPN claimed, but at the French Open in June 2010, her uniqueness dwindled. Yaroslava Shvedova showed up to her quarterfinals match wearing an identical black Lacoste dress and similar sunglasses to Stosur. They were even both covering their heads with a white accessory—Shvedova in a white headwrap and Stosur in a white baseball cap. In the end, the important factor that distinguished them was the score, which sent Stosur on to the next round.

Reportedly dueling divas Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston took the stage at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards to present in the same deep-cut, chocolate brown Vera Wang gown. "Nice dress," Carey said in a sassy (and scripted) tone. "You look pretty good, too," Houston retorted. Carey fired back, "Fortunately, I come prepared for situations like this." She ripped off a layer of her dress and shouted, "Try it on me!" Then, Houston did the same. The one-upping never ends.
