On Thursday, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza cleared the way for same-sex marriage to continue in Arkansas. Even though Piazza had ruled last week that the state’s same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional, the state Supreme Court ruled that a law preventing clerks from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples was still in effect on Wednesday. That halted same-sex marriages in Arkansas, but Pulaski expanded his ruling to strike down that law as unconstitutional, as well. Pulaski county is one of only two counties in Arkansas that was issuing same-sex marriage licenses prior to the state Supreme Court’s decision.
