Sam’s Club on Thursday abruptly shut down dozens of stories nationwide, on the same day that its owner Walmart announced that it was raising its minimum wage to $11 and handing out $1,000 bonuses as a result of the GOP tax cuts. The closings were kept under the radar until laid-off employees took to social media to complain, prompting Sam’s Club to confirm that 53 stores were closing and 10 stores were being converted into fulfillment centers.
