Sandra Bland’s family has settled her wrongful death lawsuit against the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Waller County Jail for $1.9 million, attorney Cannon Lambert said Thursday. Bland became a household name when she died in custody after she was stopped for failing to signal a lane change in July 2015. After Bland allegedly became uncooperative, the state trooper arrested her and took her to the jail, where she died in her cell of suicide by asphyxiation, according to reports. The Texas Rangers, assisted by the FBI, investigated her death.
