In an article in the Cornell International Law Journal, pioneering Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor teamed up with Kim Azzarelli, The Newsweek Daily Beast Company's new vice president of New Business Ventures and managing director, Women in the World, to discuss how supporting women judges around the world benefits everyone. Drawing on research from both the World Bank and the private sector, they reveal how investing in women and girls at the bottom of the social and economic pyramid boosts the economies of the societies in which they live. For the results to stick, however, women and girls must have equal access to justice—without these basic human rights, such as protection against violence and property rights, women will be unable to reach their full potential.
