The mother of one of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting is speaking out against Megyn Kelly and NBC News for featuring right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones in an upcoming television interview. Nelba Marquez-Greene, whose six-year old daughter was killed along with 19 classmates and six adults, criticized Kelly in a series of tweets for giving Jones a national platform. In one promotional clip, Kelly said she “talked controversies and conspiracies” with Jones, who has previously called the mass shooting “completely fake.” Marquez-Greene tweeted in response: “Hey @megynkelly, let me know if you want to give his victims equal air time. Promoting this fool is bad news. Do not encourage his abuse.” Kelly later defended the interview, tweeting that it is her job to “shine a light” on Jones because he has been praised by President Trump and because Jones’ website received White House press credentials last month.
