Rick Santorum’s super PAC is funded by a wealthy mutual-fund executive named Foster Friess—the same man who invested $3 million in creating Tucker Carlson’s the Daily Caller and continues to contribute more money to the political site. Friess celebrated the Daily Caller’s second birthday back in January, expressing excitement over the site's political coverage. Yet the question of a conflict of interest is glaring. Politico has pointed out that when writing about Santorum the DC does not mention Friess’s financial connection to the Red White and Blue Fund. And The Daily Beast’s Howard Kurtz asks whether his involvement with the Santorum campaign is “a problem for the Caller, whose lead story on Wednesday featured a picture of a beaming Santorum under the headline ‘Tuesday Treble’?” Editor in chief Carlson told Kurtz he doesn’t much care what people think about the connection. “There's not a conflict of interest or an appearance of a conflict. Foster has not sought to influence our coverage in any way.”
