Looks like Newt Gingrich isn’t the only GOP candidate "going negative" ahead of tonight’s Iowa caucuses. Rick Santorum called opponent Ron Paul “disgusting” this morning, referring to automated calls claiming Santorum is anti–Second Amendment and pro-choice. The Pennsylvania senator blamed Paul’s camp for the calls. As the campaign heats up—Santorum, Paul, and Mitt Romney are currently locked in a three-way tie—some of the candidates are focusing their efforts on slamming one another. Gingrich also took a shot at the controversial libertarian last week, telling CNN, “I think it’s very difficult to see how you would engage in dealing with Ron Paul as a nominee.” The Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz looks at the candidates' nasty new low blows.
