Sarah Palin surprised everyone by joining her liberal foes Wednesday evening when she denounced a Florida church’s plan to burn Qurans on the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. “Book burning is antithetical to American ideals,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page. “People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and unnecessary provocation—much like building a mosque at ground zero.” Palin has come out against the planned Islamic cultural center that would be located a few blocks from the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and she referenced her opposition to it several times in her statement. Palin joins many prominent figures in the Obama administration—Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder among others—in opposition to the Quran burning, as well as Gen. David Petraeus, who has said the event raises several national-security issues.
