Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman revealed in a lengthy Facebook post on Wednesday that she spent five days in the ICU this past week after battling a “freak case of epiglottitis” that could have caused respiratory failure. “I am insanely lucky to be alive,” Silverman wrote, going on to say that she owes her life to the doctors, nurses, technicians and orderlies at Cedar-Sinai hospital where she underwent successful surgery. “There's something that happens when three people you're so close to die within a year and then YOU almost die but don't,” she added.
