American students scored just slightly worse on the 2013 SAT than they did last year, new data shows, through African-Americans made slight gains from the past two years, and Hispanics did better in reading and writing. Students overall scored an average 496 in reading, down one point from 2011. Writing scores also fell one point, to 488, while math scores remained at 514 for the third straight year. (The highest possible score is 800 on each section). Boys on average, had better scores in reading and math, and girls performed better in writing.
