The verdict against the liberal blogger Raif Badawi for insulting Islam has been upheld by Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court. Bedew was sentenced last year to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison, and was flogged back in January. The Supreme Court’s decision cannot be overturned without a royal pardon.
