Saudi Arabia’s UN ambassador told reporters Monday that peace was still possible in Syria and Yemen despite Riyadh’s recent dispute with Iran over the kingdom’s execution of a prominent Shia cleric. Abdallah Al-Mouallimi said Riyadh would restore ties with Iran if Tehran would “cease and desist from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, including our own.” He added, “We are not natural-born enemies of Iran.” On Monday, Bahrain, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates joined Riyadh in severing diplomatic ties with Iran after protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran. The UN on Monday also condemned the attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran.
