A conservative South Carolina state representative—best known for his support of the Confederate battle flag—was arrested after allegedly beating his wife and pointing a gun at her. Rep. Chris Corley posted a $20,000 bond Tuesday after promising he won’t make contact with his wife or possess a firearm. The 36-year-old was charged with domestic violence and presenting a firearm. Corley is a staunch gun-rights advocate. He also voted in 2015 to support South Carolina’s sweeping domestic-violence law, which included a partial gun ban.
