Scandinavian Artists Elmgreen & Dragset Explore Surreal Estate

A much anticipated pair of installations by artist team Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset, opening at the Danish and Nordic Pavilions provides a tongue-in-cheek welcome to the art-buying set. Entitled “Collectors,” each pavilion is transformed into a sleek domestic interior designed with cinematic detail, the two spaces connected by a Hockney-esque pool scene with a body floating face down. Dramatic flourishes in the residences, such as a corner of cascading plates poised in midair or a staircase that breaks off mid-wall, reveal the strange histories of the houses’ fictional inhabitants. A roster of twenty-four artists, including Hernan Bas, Terence Koh, Jonathan Monk and fetish artist Tom of Finland decorate the walls.
