SCOTUS Rules Domestic Abusers Can Lose Gun Rights

The Supreme Court ruled 6-2 on Monday that convicted “reckless” domestic abusers should lose gun ownership rights. More specifically, domestic assaults committed “recklessly” can now trigger a federal law banning gun ownership. Conservative justice Clarence Thomas wrote the dissenting opinion, joined by the liberal jurist Sonia Sotomayor. The case revolved around two Maine men who contended that their misdemeanor domesic assault convictions should not preclude them from owning guns in the future.
