The annual May Day March for Workers and Immigrant Rights turned violent on Friday night, with rocks and bottles reportedly thrown at police and police deploying pepper spray and flash bangs in return. Black-clad protesters also “smashed windows, overturned trash bins and damaged cars,” according to the Seattle Times. Seattle police Capt. Chris Fowler wrote in a tweet, “This is no longer demonstration management; this has turned into a riot.” Around 1,000 protesters were present at the rally’s largest event; sixteen were arrested.
