Another mayor of a Mexican town overrun by drug traffickers has been gunned down, the second in less than two days, Mexican authorities said Sunday. Ambrosio Soto, the mayor of Ciudad Altamirano in southern Guerrero state, had been under federal protection after receiving threats. Late Saturday, gunmen blocked a highway on which Soto had been traveling and opened fire on his vehicle, killing Soto and wounding two federal officers who had been guarding him. Soto had reportedly refused to pay a local drug gang protection money. Earlier Saturday, the mayor of San Juan Chamula in Chiapas state was shot to death along with four other people.
