Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) floated the idea of a compromise deal to end the government shutdown on Sunday, proposing an extension of work permits for “Dreamers” who entered the country illegally as children in exchange for $5 billion in border wall and security funding. Speaking on CNN's State of the Union. Graham claimed that a 3-year extension of work permits for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, as well as some other immigration law changes, could be paired with the wall funding to end the nine-day shutdown. “To my Democratic friends, there’ll never be a deal without wall funding.” And many Republicans are going to offer something as an incentive to vote for wall funding that you have supported in the past.” Dreamer protections have been a regular bargaining chip in the showdown between Donald Trump and Democrats over wall funding, but previous attempted deals failed to pass.
