Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) official social media accounts were hacked, according to a Thursday press release from the senator’s office. While the office said “social media accounts associated with [Manchin’s] official office” were hacked, it did not detail which accounts were hacked or who they were hacked by. All his accounts have since been secured, and Manchin’s office said it was working with “state and federal law enforcement officials to prevent further hacking[.]” The news comes with the midterm elections days away, with Manchin running against West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. Other lawmakers up for re-election, like Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), have also been targeted by cyberattacks.
