President Obama’s jobs bill was never expected to pass the House, but it ran into trouble in the Senate after Republicans filibustered the measure Tuesday. They refused even to launch debate, and the bill went down 50-49, well short of the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster. Despite the GOP obstacle, many Democrats showed signs of unhappiness with the bill: while Sens. Ben Nelson and Jon Tester were the only two to vote against cloture, several other Democrats indicated that they would vote against the bill after debate began.
