Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a funding bill for efforts to combat the Zika virus, citing Republican attempts to attach unrelated riders to the legislation—including blocking funding for Planned Parenthood. A furious Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called it "the most irresponsible legislation I have ever seen in my 34 years in Congress." The House-approved bill, which would have provided $1.1 billion for Zika virus research, passed 52-48, but needed 60 votes to clear a procedural hurdle.
