Senator Roland Burris’ problems just got worse: The Senate Ethics Committee may open a probe into his activities, after the Illinois appointee admitted to “attempting to raise money” for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Burris now says that after Election Day, he phoned around trying to organize a fundraiser for the governor—contradicting previous statements he made under oath. The new senator also acknowledges having spoken to several top Blagojevich aides about the Senate seat, yet another contradiction. Perhaps unaware that his constituents might be tired of investigations and hearings, Burris says he would “welcome the opportunity to go before any and all investigative bodies.”
