Senate Waters Down Filibuster Reform

“Gentleman’s agreement” to use it less.

Do we really trust these guys to behave like gentlemen still? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have reached a “gentleman’s agreement” to scale back filibusters—a measure well short of the reform some Democratic senators were hoping to enact. Republicans have agreed to use the filibuster less so long as Democrats allow them to submit more amendments to legislation. The GOP has also agreed to eliminate secret holds and to exempt some executive nominees from the confirmation process.
