Seven men have been detained for their alleged involvement in the 1995 murder of some 1,000 Muslims at a warehouse near Srebrenica, Serbian officials said Wednesday. The slaughter was part of a three-day campaign at the end of the Bosnian War that left more that 8,000 Muslims dead, but those directly responsible for the violence have yet to be punished. Wednesday’s arrest announcements are among the first concerning those believed to have been directly involved. “We have never dealt with a crime of such proportions,” said prosecutor Bruno Vekaric. “It is very important for Serbia to take a clear position toward Srebrenica through a court process.”
