Belarusian Victoria Azarenka gave Serena Williams a run for her money Sunday, but wavered in the final minutes and fell to the American power-hitter 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Williams blasted out of the gate to take an early lead, dominating the first set 6-2. She lost her footing on serve in the second set, and Azarenka took the opportunity to swing the match in her favor. Both players regained their focus in the third set, fighting through long rallies and trading service breaks. Azarenka broke Williams to go up 5-3, and appeared to be headed for victory, but Serena retook control in the final minutes to win. It was her fourth U.S. Open title, and her 15th Grand Slam tournament victory.
