Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, has said he will not commit to recusing himself from a potential Department of Justice probe into the commander in chief. Sessions campaigned on Trump's behalf during the election, but he told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he is “not aware of a basis to recuse myself” from any potential investigations. “If merely being a supporter of the President’s during the campaign warranted recusal from involvement in any matter involving him, then most typical presidential appointees would be unable to conduct their duties,” Sessions said. By contrast, the Senator from Alabama has said he would recuse himself from any probes involving Hillary Clinton’s use of email servers because his political rhetoric in 2016 “could place my objectivity in question.”
