German police say at least two people were killed and 20 injured Saturday after a vehicle plowed into a group of pedestrians in Muenster. A local police spokesperson had earlier put the death toll at three, but Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state, later downgraded that figure. Six of those injured are reportedly in critical condition. The driver fatally shot himself immediately after driving into the crowd outside a popular bar. Authorities believe there is no indication of “any Islamist background” in the crash, Reul said, but they are “investigating in all directions.” Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reports that the driver is believed to have been suffering from psychological issues.
