San Francisco’s new archbishop was in a confessional mood on Monday after being picked up for allegedly driving under the influence in San Diego over the weekend. Archbishop-designate Salvatore Cordileone was stopped at a DUI checkpoint, police said. “I apologize for my error in judgment and feel shame for the disgrace I have brought upon the church and myself,” Cordileone said in a statement. The Roman Catholic priest said that he was driving his mother home from dinner at a friend’s house in San Diego when he was stopped at the checkpoint and found to be over the legal limit.
