In a Wednesday afternoon press conference, officials told reporters that 13-year-old Jayme Closs was at home when her parents were shot and killed. “She is still in danger,” Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said. “These things just don’t happen here.” The sheriff added that the deaths of Closs’ parents have been officially ruled homicides. Closs has been missing since her parents, James and Denise Closs, were found dead by police over the weekend. Fitzgerald said officials concluded that Jayme was in the home based on a 911 call that alerted authorities to the killings and other evidence in the case. Fitzgerald told reporters there was “no gun found on the scene.” He also said there have been no credible sightings of Jayme, and police do not currently have any suspects or persons of interest. Despite the lack of new information, Fitzgerald said he believes she is “100 percent” still alive and implored residents to call the tip line with any information.
