The conservative city-state of Singapore, where gay sex is illegal, has banned from libraries two children's books that depict same-sex couples. The move has provoked outrage, and petitions to put the books back have gotten thousands of signatures. One of the books, And Tango Makes Three, features the real-life story of two gay male penguins from the New York Zoo, while the other, The White Swan Express, mentions a lesbian couple. Singapore has seen a lot of protests recently over its gay-sex ban, and has since said that it will keep the law on the books to reflect societal values, but will not actively enforce it.
