Sistine Chapel Shines Under LED Lights

The Vatican has unveiled a new high-tech lighting and air-conditioning system to better preserve and display the Sistine Chapel and its collection of priceless works by Michelangelo and other masters. After three years of scientific and technological work, the system is said to brilliantly illuminate the famous frescoes, which have been damaged over the centuries by dust, pollution, and the impact of six million visitors each year. The new illumination system includes 7,000 new LED lights, but will nevertheless reduce the Vatican’s energy bill by 80 percent.
