At least six people were shot outside a public housing complex in Newark's North Ward midday on Monday, according to police reports. Officials said all victims were between the ages of 17 and 27 and had been rushed to a nearby hospital, though their conditions were not immediately available. Residents in the area claimed to have heard more than 10 gunshots. While no suspects or motives have been identified, a young man who works at a grocery store nearby said the gunfire sounded like a machine gun and the shots were fired shortly after 1:00 p.m., at which point he reportedly saw two black men who "seemed to be running from the bullets."
