Snyder’s, Frito-Lay Use Plant-Based Bags

Eco-Friendly

Compost-friendly wrappers hit shelves.

Two new snack-packaging options are now available in stores, flaunting biodegradability. SunChips now come in a 100 percent compostable bag that, after 14 weeks, will completely break down in a hot compost bin. The bag’s outer layer is made with polyactic acid (PLA), a renewable material made from plants. The bags became available nationwide on Earth Day, April 22. Snyder’s of Hanover has followed Frito-Lay’s example, replacing petroleum-based plastic bags with PLA-based bags for its organic pretzel line.
