Social Security: Benefits Could Get Cut

If the debt ceiling isn't raised.

The federal shutdown can't stop Social Security, but a halt in the debt ceiling debate will. The Social Security Administration has begun notifying the public that "failure to raise the debt ceiling puts Social Security benefits at risk." The warning comes after the agency discussed the Treasury Department's plans for moving forward if the borrowing limit isn't raised soon.
