Sony Stops Producing Walkman

Happy with your iPod? Let’s hope so, because Sony has officially announced that it will no longer produce the Walkman, a once revolutionary technology that has since become overwhelmed by the advent of digital music. The Walkman was first produced in 1979, and in the intervening years became a staple, selling 220 million units worldwide. Though Sony’s last shipment of Walkmans occurred in April, the name will live on in other devices made by the company, such as the Walkman NWZ-E350 MP3 player. Oh, one more departure: Sony also said goodbye to the floppy disk in April.
